Operations Lieutenant Roy A. Iler Lieutenant Roy
Iler began his law enforcement career with the Shasta County
Probation Department as a Juvenile Institutional officer in
1989. In 1992 Lieutenant Iler went to work for San Benito
County Probation Department and help complete the building and
opening of the new Juvenile Hall that same year. Lieutenant
Iler was promoted in 1998 to Juvenile Hall Superintendent and
held that position with the San Benito County Probation
Department until 2001. He then changed the direction of his law
enforcement career and started the Police Academy under the San
Benito County Sheriffs Office. During his time with the Sheriffs
Office he has been a member of the High Risk Entry Team, a Field
Training Officer and the Sheriff’s Office Explorer advisor.
Lieutenant Iler was promoted to Operations Lieutenant, On April
4th 2006. Lieutenant Iler's duties include directing all
phases the operation of the Sheriff's Office; confers frequently
with the Undersheriff and Sheriff in implementing the goals,
policies, work methods and procedures of the Sheriffs Office; he
confers with and coordinates the activities of the Sheriff
Sergeants and Deputies in order that the functions of the
organization may best meet the overall needs of the office;
assists the Undersheriff and Sheriff in planning, developing,
and implementing overall office policies, including recommending
reorganizations of departmental activities, establishing new
operating policies, including recommending reorganizations of
office in terms of personnel, programs, and equipment.
Lieutenant Iler has completed an array of P.O.S.T. and S.T.C.
management and professional training courses that helps in the
day to day operations of the Sheriffs Office. Lieutenant
Iler earned an associated arts degree in Administration of
Justice from Shasta College in 1989. Lieutenant Iler
completed the Bachelor of Science program in Business Management
at the University of Phoenix in 2000. Lieutenant Iler was born
In Daly City, California and raised in Redding California where
he attended Enterprise High School and graduated in1986.
Lieutenant Iler has been married to his wife Nancy for 10 years
and has two children Dylan and Kaitlyn.
