All completed application documents will be reviewed. Applications are screened on the basis of overall educational and experience qualifications. Qualified applicants will be invited to participate in a job-related examination process. This process includes a written examination (pass/fail) for applicants who have not successfully completed a Basis Academy certified by the California Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission; all other applicants will be ranked according to education, experience and training.

This process may also include a performance/agility test, oral appraisal, polygraph examination, medical examination, fingerprints/background investigation, psychological/psychiatric evaluation, or any combination of the above.

Probationary Period:
Appointments to regular positions are subject to a six-month (12 months for sworn peace officers and certain other positions) probationary period which is considered part of the selection process. The probationary period is intended to test the ability of the new employee to meet the requirements of the position and to determine his/her fitness for the position.
